Obama the terrorist?

Leonard Doyle writes on our blog about  claims from the McCain camp that 'Barack Obama's friend tried to kill my family', while McCain's 'warm-up man' refers to Obama as Barack Hussein Obama. And he's not the only one.

Question: Is this level of sniping unusual in US politics or is the McCain camp getting seriously desparate?

Edit: More on the claims from McCain supporters that Obama is a traitor.

i think it's sad to resort to racism to promote yourself. even sadder that it speaks big to a lot of the US. in a lot of countries you'd be fired for that Hussein remark.

Yes, and they should be called to task for make the Hussein remark here, as well, but unfortunately we have a lot of uneducated, follow-like-sheep people who don't think for themselves and blindly follow where they are told to go.

I'm just one of MANY in this country who have about had it with racism, religious hatred and all of their accompanying ugliness. There is no use for them by any thinking, feeling individual or culture.

What McCain and Palin are doing with their remarks is inciting to riot their followers, and in so doing they will cause undo harm to anyone who is a Muslim (or any other religion that isn't "their" religion). In doing this, people will be harmed (and have been harmed already -- the gassing of Muslim children at a Dayton, Ohio mosque is just ONE story http://current.com/topics/88842061_gassing ), and the world would have every right to look at us and state that we are the hatemongers.

We have to bring them to task now, and stop this before irrevocable harm is done.
